Why does your foundation color change with the season?

Your skin gets more sunlight in summer, even if you protect it well. This often makes your skin a bit darker or deeper in tone, while in winter your natural color becomes lighter again.

The undertone of your skin stays the same, but the coverage or warmth of your foundation often needs to change to maintain a natural result. A summer shade can suddenly look too warm or dark in winter, while a winter shade can appear dull in summer.

What to do in the transitional seasons (spring & autumn)?

Most people have a skin tone for the majority of the year that lies somewhere between their summer and winter color. Not extremely tan, not super light, but somewhere in between. During these periods, there are a few smart options:

Mix your summer and winter colors: The mineral powders are easy to blend together in a jar. Or, mix liquid foundation on a handy palette to get the right color.

Use the winter color as a base, and the summer color to warm up or contour.

Use your winter color as a base and lightly apply your summer color over it – apply the summer color with a fluffy brush in a thin, airy layer over your entire face. This subtly adds warmth to your complexion without looking heavy or too dark.

Which foundation formula suits your skin type?

We offer different formulas, each with their own benefits:

Mineral powder foundation – Light, breathable, and suitable for daily use. Easy to build up in layers and natural-looking with just one layer.
Compact 2-in-1 foundation – High coverage and convenient for on the go. Thanks to the 2-in-1 formula, it covers unwanted spots in a single layer, often making concealer unnecessary.
Liquid hydrating foundation – Beautiful coverage with a dewy finish. Suitable for all skin types, especially mature skin with (fine) lines.

Our mineral foundations naturally contain ingredients such as titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide, which are known for their UV-reflective properties. However, our foundations are not developed or tested as official sun protection products, so we cannot claim a specific SPF.

If you want to protect your skin well from the sun, we always recommend using a separate SPF day cream or sunscreen under your makeup.
