Eyeliner pencil for soft lines or bolder definition

An eyeliner pencil lets you add colour close to the lashes with more control than a liquid line. How to apply an eyeliner pencil

Sharpen the pencil when you want a more precise point, following the product’s directions. Rest your hand on your cheek for stability and draw small strokes along the lash line rather than trying to make one long line. Join and soften the strokes with a clean brush if you prefer a smoky edge. Build a thicker line only after you are happy with the placement.

A softer eye look with brown or colour

Black makes a clear contrast at the lash line, while brown can create gentler definition. Blue, green and purple offer a different way to bring attention to the eyes without changing your whole routine. Try a coloured pencil beside a neutral eyeshadow, or echo a colour from your outfit. Eye colour can suggest combinations, but it does not set a rule: test a small line in daylight.

Waterproof, wear and the waterline

Wear depends on the specific pencil, your skin and where you apply it. Do not assume every eye pencil in a collection is waterproof or suitable for the waterline. Check the directions and claims for the exact shade before using it on the inner rim of the eye. If a product is not labelled for that area, keep application to the outer lash line. Remove eye make-up gently at the end of the day.

Pair an eye pencil with eyeshadow and mascara

Use a pencil after your eyeshadow to define the lashes, then add mascara if you want more lash emphasis. A matte shade can soften the pencil edge, while shimmer on the lid creates contrast with a darker line. For a quick look, one pencil and a light mascara coat may be enough. Keep brushes clean and replace or sharpen the pencil as directed.
