Makeup for oily skin: a practical routine

If your T-zone gets shiny or foundation seems to move during the day, small changes in preparation and application can help you choose a finish you like. Oily and combination skin can vary, so adjust each step to the areas that need it.

Prepare without overloading

Cleanse as you normally do, apply skincare that suits your skin and allow it to settle. Follow your usual sun protection routine. A mattifying primer can be used on the T-zone if you like, but it is optional.

Choose a foundation finish

Loose mineral powder foundation can be built in thin layers and gives you control over where you apply it. Start with a little powder on a clean kabuki brush, tap off excess and blend gently. A liquid or compact foundation can also work if you prefer its texture; set shiny areas selectively with powder.

Compare foundation formulas and choose a shade that blends with your jaw and neck in daylight.

Touch up with less product

If shine appears later, try blotting paper before adding powder. Press it gently where needed, then add a small amount of finishing powder if you still want a more matte look. Repeated thick layers can make texture more noticeable.

Keep tools clean

Clean brushes and sponges regularly and remove makeup gently at the end of the day. “Mineral” does not mean a product treats acne or controls sebum for everyone. If you have persistent skin concerns, seek professional advice.
