Mineral makeup comes in different formulas and formats. If you are trying it for the first time, start with the coverage and finish you prefer, then choose a shade and a brush that work together.

What is mineral makeup?

Mineral makeup uses mineral pigments and other ingredients depending on the formula. Loose mineral foundation, compact foundation and liquid foundation have different textures and ingredient lists. “Mineral” alone does not guarantee that a formula suits every skin type, so check the individual product details. Choose your foundation

Loose mineral powder lets you build coverage in thin layers. Compact foundation is convenient to take with you and offers a different texture. Liquid foundation may appeal if you prefer a fluid application and finish. Compare foundation formulas and try tester sizes where available.

Find your shade

Consider the depth and undertone of your skin. Test two or three nearby shades along your jawline in natural daylight and look for one that blends into both your face and neck. Our shade guide and colour advice can help.

Apply mineral powder in light layers

1. Let your skincare settle.
2. Put a small amount of powder in the lid.
3. Work it into a clean kabuki brush and tap off excess.
4. Blend gently and add another layer only where needed.

Build your own routine

You can add concealer, blush or a finishing powder if you want them. You do not need every step at once. Start with a few products, notice how they look and feel through the day, and adjust from there.
