Contouring in 2025: How to Achieve Effortless, Natural Definition
Contouring in 2025: Subtle sculpting for every day Contouring is no longer just an Instagram hype. In 2025, it’s all about soft definition, gentle shadows, and a fresh, effortless look. The time of harsh lines and heavy makeup is behind us. Nowadays, it’s about enhancing your natural features – not hiding them. A well-applied contour gives your face just that little bit of extra structure. Your cheekbones appear slightly higher, your jawline a bit more defined, and your skin looks as if you’ve just returned from a relaxing walk or a good night’s sleep. At Mineralissima, we believe that contouring is most beautiful when it remains soft and skin-friendly. With our mineral products, you can effortlessly create a natural shadow and a warm glow, without clogging your pores or burdening your skin. Whether you’re a makeup lover who enjoys experimenting, or someone who likes to get ready quickly in the morning: contouring fits into every routine. The secret? The right products, a light hand, and a little trust in your own natural beauty. What do you need for contouring? For contouring, it’s best to use a product that is one or two shades darker than your natural skin tone. This can be a dedicated contour product, such as our Mineral Shape & Contour Powder in Medium, or a compact contour powder if you prefer working with a pressed texture. Prefer to keep it minimal? You can also use a foundation that’s slightly darker than your regular shade. Popular tones for contouring include Compact Foundation Ava or Mineral Foundation Autumn Teak. For application, it’s best to use an angled brush, such as our angled contour brush. It allows you to place the product precisely and blend it easily for a natural-looking result. How to contour – step by step Apply your foundation as usual to create an even base. Decide where you want to contour. Classic areas are: • Just beneath the cheekbones • Along the hairline • Under the jawline • Optionally, along the sides of the nose Apply the contour product with a light hand. It’s better to start with less; you can always build it up. Blend thoroughly. Use small circular motions and blend upwards to lift the face. The goal isn’t to transform your face completely, but to give your natural features a touch more definition. Watch the video (in dutch) where each step is explained for you. Tips for effortless contouring Tip 1: Contouring is about mimicking the natural shadows of your face — and shadows naturally have a cooler, greyish-brown undertone. Our Shape & Contour Powder Medium, for instance, is specially developed to create a realistic shadow. Tip 2: Whenever possible, work in natural daylight so you can see the effect most accurately. Tip 3: Start with a small amount of product. It’s easier to build up layers than to apply too much at once. Tip 4: Pair your contour with a soft highlighter or a fresh blush to keep the look balanced. Contour your way Contouring isn’t a trick you can do “right” or “wrong.” It’s about enhancing your face in a way that suits you. Whether you prefer just a touch of shadow beneath your cheekbones or go all out for a more defined look — it’s all perfectly fine. FAQ about contouring Q: What shade should I choose for contouring? A: Choose a shade that is about one to two tones darker than your natural skin colour. This creates shadow and definition without looking unnatural. Also pay attention to the undertone: if you have cool-toned skin, go for a taupe or ash-brown shade; if your skin has a warmer undertone, opt for a sand or bronze tone. Shades that are too dark can look harsh, especially in daylight. Q: What’s the difference between contour and bronzer? A: Contour is used to add shadow and shape to the face — for example, to accentuate the cheekbones or define the jawline. Bronzer, on the other hand, is meant to add warmth and a sun-kissed glow, as if your skin has caught a bit of sun. Contour is applied strategically in the “shadow zones” of your face, while bronzer goes on the areas where the sun would naturally hit (forehead, bridge of the nose, cheekbones). Q: Can I contour with mineral makeup? A: Absolutely! Mineral makeup is ideal for this. The texture is light, natural and easy to blend, giving you a soft, skin-friendly finish without streaks. It’s also hypoallergenic, talc-free and non-comedogenic, making it perfect for sensitive or easily irritated skin. You can choose loose mineral powders for a more airy effect or compact powders for extra precision. Q: What brush is best for contouring? A: An angled contour brush is the best choice for controlled, even application. The angled shape helps you follow your face’s natural lines and makes blending easy. Q: Is contouring suitable for everyday use? A: Definitely. Contouring doesn’t have to be heavy or dramatic. With a light hand and well-blended mineral products, you can create a fresh, natural look every day. Try a matte mineral powder foundation or a matte bronzer with a cool undertone in a slightly darker shade than your skin tone. This adds gentle definition to your face without looking overly made up. How to create a radiant-looking complexion
How to create a radiant-looking complexionA fresh-looking glow can come from a comfortable skincare base, a foundation finish you enjoy and a little colour in the right places. There is no instant food or makeup trick that guarantees “healthy skin”, but you can experiment with a routine that makes your complexion look more radiant.Start with skin preparationCleanse gently and use skincare that suits you. Allow moisturiser and your regular sunscreen to settle before makeup. A well-prepared base can make foundation easier to apply evenly. Makeup is not a substitute for sun protection.Choose a foundation finishFor a natural look, apply a thin layer of foundation and add coverage only where you want it. A liquid formula may give a different finish from loose mineral powder. Try both textures if you are unsure, and check the colour along your jawline in daylight.Add colour and light selectivelyA little blush can bring colour to the cheeks. Highlighter can catch the light on the high points of the face. If you prefer a more matte T-zone, keep the glow to selected areas and use a little finishing powder where needed.Keep the routine comfortableToo much product can make dry patches or texture more visible. Apply in thin layers with clean tools, assess the result in daylight and change one step at a time. The best glow is the finish you enjoy wearing.

9 things to know about vegan makeup
9 things to know about vegan makeupLooking for vegan makeup? The label is a useful starting point, but it does not tell you everything about texture, ingredients or how a product will feel on your skin. These nine points can help you choose with more confidence.1. Vegan describes ingredientsVegan makeup is formulated without animal-derived ingredients. Check the product's own information rather than assuming that every item in a range has the same formula.2. Vegan and cruelty-free answer different questions“Vegan” concerns ingredients, while “cruelty-free” concerns animal testing policies. A brand may use both terms, but one claim does not automatically prove the other. Look at the specific statements or certification behind each claim.3. Natural and vegan are differentA plant-derived ingredient can be vegan, but vegan products need not be entirely plant-based. Mineral pigments can also be used in vegan makeup. Likewise, “natural” is not the same as vegan.4. Ingredient origins can varySome ingredients can come from more than one source. Squalane, for example, may be plant-derived or animal-derived. If a product's origin is unclear, ask the brand.5. Watch for animal-derived ingredientsIngredients such as beeswax, lanolin and carmine are animal-derived. Formulas differ, so read the full INCI list and the product's vegan information.6. Finish is a separate choiceVegan makeup comes in loose powder, pressed powder, liquid and other formats. Choose the texture, shade and coverage that suit your routine.7. A vegan label does not guarantee skin compatibilityEvery person's skin is different. Check ingredients if you have sensitivities, and try a small area when testing a new product.8. Packaging is a separate considerationA vegan formula does not by itself describe the packaging or environmental impact of a product. Compare the formats and any available refills individually.9. Try the shade and application methodThe best makeup is also makeup you enjoy using. Test shades in daylight, build coverage gradually and choose tools that suit the formula. Explore Mineralissima's foundation, concealer and other makeup, checking each product's ingredient details.Mineralissima offers vegan makeup options; review individual product pages for formula information and availability.

What does non-comedogenic mean?
What does non-comedogenic mean in makeup?“Non-comedogenic” is used to describe a product intended to be less likely to block pores. It is a useful clue when comparing makeup, but it is not a promise that a formula will never cause blemishes for every person. Why is the term useful?Comedones are blocked pores, often described as blackheads or whiteheads. People with blemish-prone skin may look for formulas described as non-comedogenic. What works for you depends on the whole formula and your individual skin, so no single ingredient list can predict every reaction.Does mineral makeup automatically qualify? No. “Mineral” refers to a type of pigment or formula, not a universal result for your pores. Read the full ingredients of a particular foundation and consider its texture, your skincare and how you remove makeup. How to choose and test a productRead the full product ingredient list, especially if you know you react to something.Try one new formula at a time and begin with a small area.Apply in thin layers with clean tools.Remove makeup gently at the end of the day.Oils and other ingredients cannot simply be labelled “good” or “bad” for everyone's skin. A product's overall formulation matters. If you have persistent acne or significant irritation, ask a healthcare professional for advice.Explore foundation options and tester sizes to find a texture and finish you like.

How to expertly shape your eyebrows and frame your eyes
How can your eyebrows enhance your appearance?  We help you! Eyes may be the window to the soul, but you need a good frame to support them. That's where good eyebrows come into play.Eyebrows frame your face and change your face in a few seconds, and here at Mineralissima we want to help you achieve the (for you) perfect eyebrow shape when using makeup, so we take you through the different ways you can shape and fill in your eyebrows, so they are always 'on fleek'. Let's talk about the eyebrow shapeThin or thick, fluffy or structured... Whatever eyebrow shape you naturally have, the products you use should enhance it. It's not a problem if your eyebrows aren't as full as you'd like, because this is where we come to the rescue. One thing to remember: You can always add more product, but it is somewhat harder to remove it! Of course, this depends on the method and product of your choice. When choosing the color of the product, try to select something lighter than the color of your eyebrow hair, so that it blends well and seamlessly. The tools you need to expertly shape and draw your eyebrows •A good brush, like our angledeyebrow brush, specially made for powder and mineral products. Our customers love this brush for their eyebrows because it helps them achieve the perfect shape every time with minimal effort.•Aspoolieor old (clean) mascara brush, to brush the eyebrows before, during, and after applying your product of choice. This is actually just like your trusted blending brush that you need when doing your eye makeup.•Eyebrow setting product; nowadays there are many that meet all different kinds of needs. You can use a clear gel, a colored/tinted gel, and even soap! If you are intrigued by the soap method, read more about it below. How to shape your eyebrowsBefore we take you through all the ways to achieve the perfect eyebrow shape with the different products, it is essential to start with a good base. In this case, a neat eyebrow shape that suits your face and features. If you have your eyebrows done professionally, chances are you already have a pretty good idea of your ideal shape. However, if you usually do them yourself, read our tips below to tweeze your eyebrows to perfection. EpilationFirst make sure your eyebrows and tweezers are clean and free of any product. If you're afraid to have your eyebrows done alone, you can order an eyebrow stencil to get an idea of your perfect shape. Before you start removing stray hairs, it's important to see what is truly stray and what should stay. Take a pencil/pen and an eyebrow pencil, start by holding it on the side of each nostril to see where your eyebrow should begin and lightly mark it with your eyebrow pencil. Then move the pencil/pen to connect your nostril, over your eye, and onto your eyebrow - this is where your arch should be. Finally, move the pencil/pen slightly away from the previous point to see where your eyebrow should end. This is a general trick to find the perfect shape for you, but you may have other preferences (e.g., a straighter arch) and that's okay! It is very important to remember: even a single eyebrow hair can change the entire eyebrow shape, so it is better to start slowly than to remove more than you should! Start first from the middle of the eyebrows and then underneath. We recommend not removing hairs from the lower part at the front of the eyebrow, as it is better to leave that to expert hands. The products you need for the perfect eyebrow shape EYEBROW PENCILEyebrow pencil is probably the easiest way to shape your eyebrows, especially if you are a beginner. Start with the lightest touch and make small hair-like strokes going upwards. We recommend trying it out on the back of your hand first if you are a complete beginner, so you get a better feel for the product. Once you are familiar with your small hair-like strokes, brush your eyebrow hairs upward with your spoolie or eyelash brush and fill in the sparse areas of your eyebrows, starting at the front. Hold the eyebrow pencil at an angle almost parallel to your skin, so you don't apply more pressure than necessary. Remember that a light hand is extremely important when drawing your eyebrows. Our eyebrow pencil comes in three shades; light, medium, and dark, and it is soft yet firm. Choose your color by matching it to your hair color; light is suitable for light blonde, medium is great for dark blonde and light brown hair, and dark is for medium to dark brown hair. EYEBROW POWDERAs a mineral cosmetic brand, powders are our specialty, our compact eyebrow powder is long-lasting and not smudgy. It is almost impossible to use this incorrectly! Of course, it is a vegan, mineral formula carefully pressed into a powder for ease of use. To shape your eyebrows with the eyebrow powder, brush your eyebrows upward and then take the angled eyebrow brush, lightly dip it into the powder, and slowly draw with hair-like strokes in an upward motion. Start at the front of the eyebrow and slowly move towards the end. Brush your eyebrows again to seamlessly blend the powder and you're done! You can then add a setting product of your choice if needed. Our eyebrow powder comes in three shades that match your hair color; light for light to medium blonde hair, medium is a taupe shade suitable for light to medium brown hair, and dark is a darker espresso color for dark brown and black hair. Remember to always choose a shade lighter than your eyebrow hair to ensure the color blends nicely and looks natural. POWDER BROWSThe Define Eyebrow Powder is our hero product when it comes to eyebrow shaping, we have perfected our vegan, cruelty-free, mineral formula over the years and this is clearly our hero eyebrow product. This is also the best option if you prefer a more natural, lightly defined eyebrow look, as the superfine powder smoothly blends your eyebrow hairs in. To shape your eyebrows with the eyebrow powder, brush your eyebrows upward and take the angled eyebrow brush, pour a very small amount of powder onto the product's cap and dip your brush into it. Fill in the sparse areas as desired with light strokes. This product comes in four shades, the light one is for blondes and mousy brown hair, the medium is perfect for brown hair, and the dark one is suitable for darker hair and darker skin tones. We also have a black one if your hair is black, and that is a special 2-in-1 product; it can also be used as eyeliner. Just take some of the powder with a damp eyeliner brush and slowly draw your cat-eye flicks with it. SOAP BROWSSoap can be used to set eyebrows, whichever product you use to draw and shape them. All you need is a transparent piece of soap, something that is almost transparent. A favorite among the beauty community is Pear's soap. Then take your spoolie or eyelash brush, wet it with a little water or setting spray and pick up some of the soap, enough to coat the brush. Start brushing your eyebrows upwards or sideways, depending on the desired final look. Once you've found the desired shape, 'push' the eyebrow up into place with your finger to set it and ensure it stays put as long as possible. You can use the Soap Brows technique before or after filling in your eyebrows. It is suitable for all eyebrow shapes and the perfect technique if you want to achieve the 'fluffy' eyebrow, beautifully unshaped, but stays in place well!

Makeup for oily skin: a practical routine
Makeup for oily skin: a practical routineIf your T-zone gets shiny or foundation seems to move during the day, small changes in preparation and application can help you choose a finish you like. Oily and combination skin can vary, so adjust each step to the areas that need it.Prepare without overloadingCleanse as you normally do, apply skincare that suits your skin and allow it to settle. Follow your usual sun protection routine. A mattifying primer can be used on the T-zone if you like, but it is optional.Choose a foundation finishLoose mineral powder foundation can be built in thin layers and gives you control over where you apply it. Start with a little powder on a clean kabuki brush, tap off excess and blend gently. A liquid or compact foundation can also work if you prefer its texture; set shiny areas selectively with powder.Compare foundation formulas and choose a shade that blends with your jaw and neck in daylight.Touch up with less productIf shine appears later, try blotting paper before adding powder. Press it gently where needed, then add a small amount of finishing powder if you still want a more matte look. Repeated thick layers can make texture more noticeable.Keep tools cleanClean brushes and sponges regularly and remove makeup gently at the end of the day. “Mineral” does not mean a product treats acne or controls sebum for everyone. If you have persistent skin concerns, seek professional advice.
